Week 12 Reflection

There was a lot of self-reflection and introspection this week. Asking questions such as what our “must” is and how it differs from “should”. Elle Luna helped organize and distinguish our innate desires to those that have been shaped by society. A basic example this: A job that brings the person happiness could be a “must” while a job that only brings the individual financial stability would be a “should”. This idea of the “must” and “should”, is I believe, expanded further through the concept of mattering maps. Ultimately, mattering maps are projection of the individual, group, or society’s goals and desires. Therefore, it inevitably includes the “must” and “should” of individuals. Exploring the Elle Luna’s idea and taking the time to analyze your own mattering maps is a great way to organize and flesh out reasons behind the choices we make in our daily lives. I believe that this final project will not only benefit me as a designer, but also give me an opportunity to really spend time learning more about my goals and desires. I hope to spend some time this weekend thinking more on my own mattering map and the overlap it has with society’s mattering map.
